Laser hair removal is a medical procedure used to remove unwanted hair. In a nutshell, it works via the use of a concentrated light beam targeted at the hair. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair, damaging the follicle enough to prevent it from growing. This treatment can be very effective for some people, but it may take many sessions/treatments to get rid of all unwanted hair.
Both men and women seek laser hair removal to remove unwanted hair. Laser hair removal is commonly done on legs, underarm, abdomen, lip, chin, back, buttocks, pubic area, thighs, neck, face, chest, arms, and toes. The only time laser hair removal will not work is if your hair is too fine (like Peach fuzz) and/or too light in color, such as gray and very blonde hair.
Body hair grows in unpredictable cycles and for the treatment to be most effective, it needs to take place during one of those cycles. In most people, the treatment can remove hair anywhere from several months to years but this varies from person to person. It’s also not unusual for patients to have a touch-up two years after initial treatment due to hormonal changes.
Possible side effects are very mild and may include slight redness of the skin or local swealling of the treated area typically lasting 1-2 hours and ocasionally a few days. Most clients resume normal activities right after the treatment with no down time. Occasionally a slight rash may occur and in very few and rare cases, some blistering and/or discoloration may appear but are usually temporary.
